Identifying Needs

How are the needs of children/young people identified?

To identify the needs of our pupils/students all sources of information are used:

  • Primary School information

  • Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 data

  • parent comments

  • review data

  • key assessment results

  • teacher observation

  • teaching assistant observation

  • all pupils/students are assessed on entry using the following screening tests:

  • reading test.

Note: Some pupils/students will trigger further assessments if their reading score is significantly below that expected of their age.

Those pupils/students who have had intervention in Years 7, 8 and 9 are retested and assessed at the end of the intervention period. When all assessments and information gathering are complete a decision will be made regarding next steps. Those pupils/students identified as having additional needs will be offered appropriate interventions.
