Transport
The Council’s revised Home to School Travel Policy is being implemented from 1 September 2024.
The main eligibility criteria for eligible pupils is for travel to their ‘nearest suitable school with places available’.
The revised policy does not affect the admissions process and parents continue to be able to express preferences for their preferred schools on their application forms.
More information – including about how parents can find their nearest schools - is available on the website:
School transport for reception to year 11 children | North Yorkshire Council.
This distance calculator uses bespoke NYC mapping tools and is individual for each address in North Yorkshire, distances are not same as using other online route mapping.
What happens next?
- applications for secondary places (for Set 2025) should be submitted before 31 October 2024
- school places will be offered on national offer day, 3 March 2025, in accordance with the admissions arrangements
- travel arrangements for eligible pupils will be determined only after school place offers have been and travel requirements of all pupils are
known - this will include use of current routes/services as well as the identification of new contract requirements
- all routes and vehicles that are utilised for school travel are subject to risk assessment and review.
